Our Panel “AI 2010: Wall-e Or Rise Of The Machines?” is in SXSWi!

After months of planning, a month of voting (and months of waiting for results), we have learned that our SXSW Interactive Panel “AI 2010: Wall-e Or Rise Of The Machines?” has been chosen for SXSWi 2010! The technology panel will cover artificial intelligence now and in the future, from high tech robots to content recommendation engines. Read our panel description here.

As you know, there were over 2300 panel ideas this year in Interactive alone! We are so grateful to be found in the crowd, and it is all thanks to you. Thank you to all for voting and supporting us in our SXSWi 2010 efforts!

We love going to SXSW every year to learn new things in technology, social media, and gadgets, so we hope to make this panel as informative and entertaining as any other panel we would want to attend. If you have thoughts on our panel, or think you could rock it as a panelist (or just know someone who would be awesome for this panel), let us know. We’re in the early stages of planning and would love to hear what you want to see for this panel!

We’d also like to congratulate those who have made it into SXSW so far and those who are still waiting to hear. The competition was tough this year, so I know the SXSW committee has their hands full, and there are still more panels that have not been selected yet. We’re crossing our fingers for those waiting to hear and congratulate our peers who will make SXSW great this year.

A special thanks to all of our fans and followers who voted for our SXSW panels. Competition was tough this year with 2299 panels in interactive alone (quite a crowd to get lost in!). There were some high quality panels in the mix as well and we hope you thought our panels met that same high quality, interesting panel standard. Thank you so much for all your continued support!

While voting ended September 4th, we will not know which panels are selected until October at the earliest. Stay tuned to the blog and our twitter accounts for news on the results!

If our panel(s) do get selected, we will need experts as well! We will post what topic areas and expertise we need to our blog and twitter as well.

“Machine learning” once implied PhD’s and racks of servers. No more. With projects like EC2, Hadoop and Mahout, and accessible texts lining bookstore shelves, advanced distributed computing techniques are mainstream. After introducing the basics of map/reduce and collaborative filtering, we will ponder the possibilities of web-scale computing for everyone.

    This next generation is using online video as their first stop for news, information, and even scholarly research. In this group, print media is deader than MTV. How can print-based publishers compete in this visual era? Should they compete, or is there still an audience that wants to read news?

    Twitter has dominated pop culture and the news this past year, becoming the platform for gossip and information alike. In an era where everyone gets their must-click links from “friends,” is RSS obsolete? And has Twitter become too fast for major media news (i.e. CNN v. Irani Election)?
